Oregon Dog Health Alert - Toxic Water. Advisories issued for some bodies of water. Portland, Oregon. Dog deaths reported. Harmful algae and cyanobacteria (sometimes called blue-green algae) can produce toxins (poisons) that can make people and animals sick and affect the environment. Children and dogs are particularly vulnerable. Clean water reports for safe swimming only test for E-coli, dangerous toxic blooms can still be present and have been found at several lakes and rivers in Oregon. When in doubt, stay OUT!
